Let me know what you think :)

Let's argue about Mockingjay. And I'm hoping that you'd change the way I think about it.

Okay. So I just finished Mockingjay. And all I can say is… “That’s it???”

My reaction may infuriate other people and they may say that I’m a hater, but to tell you the truth, I LOVE THE HUNGER GAMES Trilogy. I devoured it. I loved it so much that I even have “nightmares” of it. Sometimes, in my dreams, I am inside the Arena. Sometimes, I am Katniss myself. But then, why the reaction?

1. I expected Mockingjay to have an EXPLOSIVE ending. I mean, with all those action and stuff, I was really expecting an ending that would leave me speechless.

I was expecting Katniss to kill both Snow and Coin. Or have a wild goose chase with either of them, thinking that Coin really did just use her. I was expecting her to kill Coin, but didn’t expect Snow to die of laughter, I mean — REALLY? Died of laughter or stampede? It was a pretty weak ending to a very strong Snow, don’t you think?

Then with Gale vs. Peeta. I know that the book was definitely not about the so-called “Love Triangle” among the three main characters. But then again, Gale was just like a bubble. Here in this page, gone the next. What really happened to him? He didn’t even say anything about Katniss killing Coin, or about going home to 12.

For Peeta, I was expecting him to have a realization on his part that Katniss wasn’t really the bad guy, and that he was sorry for everything, blah blah. But, he just appeared in 12 out of nowhere, baked bread for Katniss, took care of her, and then they had babies. That’s it.

There wasn’t really a resolution in the story, in my opinion. It looks like the author never intended to finish the trilogy, but just end it. Abruptly.

2. I didn’t get the term Mockingjay. I thought Katniss will be the one to lead the rebels. But all she did was to get hurt, get some morphling, doze off, hide behind the closet or go wherever she wants to go, do whatever Coin tells her, get hurt, morphling, so on. And that’s it. Didn’t even read about her being in a “real” fight. I like her better in Hunger Games and Catching Fire. She seemed too weak in the last book. But I stand corrected though. If you (whoever is reading this) thinks that I am wrong, you may correct me and tell me why Katniss wasn’t weak.

3. The fall of the Capitol was anti-climactic. Katniss saw the silver parachutes explode - that was it. Then she woke up in a hospital, with the hospital people telling her what happened. She was the Mockingjay. She was supposed to be the one to lead the rebels to victory not sleep through the war, and again, back to my point #2.

4. I expected a trial after Katniss killed Coin. But again, she spent the whole time inside her room, sleeping, not eating, bathing. That’s it.

5. The Capitol killing Cinna, I can accept. But Finnick. I can’t. COME ON. WE’RE TALKING ABOUT FINNICK HERE! I am just disappointed with the author killing Finnick. I think I am inlove with him.

But just so you know, my reaction with Mockingjay is not, in anyway, in connection with the first 2 books. I just love Hunger Games and Catching Fire. In fact, I am reading the first book again. I am going to read Mockingjay again, and try to make sense with what’s happening, and read it line by line again so I could understand everything more clearly.

And may the odds may ever be on your favor.
